Lyric Analysis

A Little Bit Longer
Jonas Brothers

Got the news today
Doctor said I had to stay
A little bit longer
And I'll be fine
When I thought it all been done
When I thought it all been said
A little bit longer
And I'll be fine

But you don't know what you got until it's gone
And you don't know what it's like to feel so low
And every time you smile or laugh, you glow
You don't even know, know, know
You don't even know

All this time goes by
Still no reason why
A little bit longer
And I'll be fine
Waitin' on the cure
But none of them are sure
A little Bit Longer
And I'll be fine

But you don't know you got until it's gone
And you don't know what it's like to feel so low
And every time you smile or laugh, your glow
You don't even know, know, know
You don't even know, know, know
You don't even know, know, know

Yeah!

But you don't know what you got until it's gone
And you don't know what it's like to feel so low, yeah!
And every time you smile or laugh, you glow
You don't even know, yeah, oh!
Yeah, ohh!
Yeah, yeah!

You don't even know, no, no!

So I wait 'til Kingdom Come
All the highs and lows have gone
A little bit longer and I'll be fine.

I'll be ... fine.

This song is a very special song as it was written by Nick Jonas to express his situation with diabetes. For example, the initial diagnosis ("Got the news today, doctor said I had to stay, a little bit longer"). To me the meaning of this song is not to take things for granted, because truly you don't understand how special something you have is, until you have it no longer. Nick is saying he took his life without diabetes for granted, because things became much more difficult when he was diagnosed. This song uses poetic devices such as repetition and rhyming. For example, it repeats "you don't even know" over several times throughout the song, meaning that you don't know what you've got until its gone. In the main course, rhyming is used (low, glow). This song is very emotional, and the lyrics have a lot of meaning.
